Shannon Cleere

We’re ecstatic to announce @shannon_cleere will be our next RAD artist! 🎈Shannon will receive an unrestricted $1,500 stipend and enjoy 3 months in our large street front studio space at our original location (2407 1st Ave). Come say hi 👋🏽 We can’t wait to see what @shannon_cleere creates during her 3-month residency!

In her own words: “I am a research-based interdisciplinary artist exploring the intersection of cultural inheritance, memory, and the spaces we inhabit. I work across various media, regularly incorporating daily maintenance activities into my practice and using overlooked materials, activities, and rituals of everyday life to expose the social structures that shape lived experiences. Making relics in the form of teabags filled with hair or screen printing with household dust, I draw attention to what is not always visible, acknowledged, or valued. By elevating overlooked domestic materials and everyday rituals, I aim to emphasize the social value of care and how it shapes identity across generations.

During my residency at Base Camp Studios, I envision working with printmaking, collage, and small sculpture. I intend to continue experimenting with maintenance work and related materials, focusing on what these substances can communicate about labor, care, and lived experience.”

Shannon Cleere earned an MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2024 and was awarded the VCFA Center for Arts + Social Justice Fellowship Grant. She is co-founder of l l l Artist Fund, an artist grant provider, and works as a Teaching Artist for @pathwithart. Cleere exhibits nationally, most recently in Answer as Question, a juried group show at @columbiacitygallery in partnership with the @seattleartmuseum, and has works in the forthcoming 27th International Open at Woman Made Gallery in Chicago. Her work was featured in publications such as Entre Rios Books’ City of Dreadful Night by James Thomson, Suboart Magazine, and Collective Arts Network Journal. Cleere lives and works in Seattle, Washington.
